Roeltje van de Sande Bakhuyzen

The power of vulnerability or There’s something magic in every moment and you can only capture it by following your gut feeling.

The term In Lak’ech is a greeting of the ancient Maya, which means ‘I am the other you’/ we are all one. Everything is connected and we are all connected. Roeltje van de Sande Bakhuijzen was born in the Netherlands in 1992. Coming from a family of creatives she’s always been fascinated with visual art. Capturing and creating feelings. After her journey in Tibet, where she got to know the essence of In Lak’ech, and captured her sense of the journey through the medium of photography, she knew that this was the universal language where she was understood. Expressing the unknown, and indescribable feelings in images. The magic of the now, the power of the now, capturing that moment. As a real people person, roeltje mainly focuses on portrait photography. Working together and capture the unique beauty of an individual. Connecting with the other, being together, discovering intimacy, making vulnerability powerful, and creating, is what drives Roeltje in her work. Her photography can be described as sincere, intimate, vulnerable, quirky and raw. Working from intuition, with a touch of glamour. The mindset: know the rules, but don’t stick to them. There’s something magic in every moment and you can only capture it by following your gut feeling.
