It’s a wrap, our TEDxAmsterdam Women Event on Decoding the future

On Wednesday, November 29, 2023, TEDxAmsterdam Women hosted its highly anticipated main event at the fully booked Theatre Amsterdam, boasting a capacity of over 900 attendees. Under the theme of “Decoding the Future,” the event aimed to challenge conventional thinking and explore new possibilities for a brighter future.

 

From the outset, the energy was palpable, and the audience eagerly awaited the lineup of inspiring speakers. Angelique Houtveen, our moderator for the evening,a versatile figure in radio, podcasting, voice-over artistry, moderated the evening with such enthusiasm that only a person who has previously stood on the red dot can bring. She added a special touch to the event, ensuring a memorable and engaging experience for all attendees. Accompanying Angelique on stage was the sign language interpreter ensuring each individual’s needs were met, highlighting the commitment to inclusivity and diversity at TEDx Amsterdam Women.

Breaking Down Barriers

From across the ocean, Dr. Nicola Fox, a Mission Directorate at NASA, began by demystifying complex scientific concepts, demonstrating that science is not confined to laboratories but permeates our everyday lives. Her insightful presentation bridged the gap between seemingly complex scientific concepts and their everyday practical applications, inspiring a newfound appreciation for science.

Real Emotions Flowed Through the Hall

Houda Noussi, a spoken word artist and Down Syndrome advocate, delivered a powerful and emotional presentation that brought tears to the eyes of the audience. Her personal story of overcoming challenges served as a powerful reminder of the human spirit’s ability to shift our mindset and triumph over adversity and societal labels.

Speaker Lies Oudemans, the winner of the TEDxAmsterdam Women Talent Night event 2023, passionately addressed the importance of financial independence for women. She argued that financial independence empowers women to make their own choices and pursue their aspirations, regardless of their circumstances or stage of life. Her eloquence and humour made a lasting impression, urging the audience to reconsider societal norms and expectations placed on women.

Challenging Perceptions and Redefining Leadership

Raisa Ghazi, an award-winning global public speaker on Inclusive Leadership and Women’s Leadership, delved into the misconceptions surrounding women in hijab, particularly in the workplace. Sharing personal anecdotes, she challenged stereotypes and advocated for an inclusive and equitable workplace for all. Her speech reminded us to take up space wherever we are.

Speaker Mickelle Weber, introduced blockchain with a fresh perspective, highlighting its potential to support modern families and households. She shared some best practices on how it can benefit her daily and children as well.

The Power of Mindfulness and Intergenerational Collaboration

Speaker Ingrid Valks, brought 900+ individuals in Theatre Amsterdam to silence and meditation. She likened the interconnectedness of individuals to a plant ecosystem within a vase, emphasizing the importance of mindfulness and collective well-being.

Speaker Jasemen Nassab, a passionate Gen Z speaker, shattered stereotypes and challenged generational positioning. With a powerful message, she highlighted the need for all generations to work together, emphasizing the collective strength that arises from unity in both the workplace as well as everyday life.

In a culmination that echoed the sentiments of the night, spoken word artist Kate Jenkinson took the stage for a final speech. With eloquence and grace, she performed a beautiful spoken word piece, skillfully summarizing the key takeaways from each speaker. Kate’s unique blend of creativity and passion for poetry truly illuminated the TEDxAmsterdam Women  stage, leaving a lasting mark on the collective memory of the audience.

The inspirational speakers showcased the diverse and impactful nature of TEDxAmsterdam Women events, affirming the transformative power of ideas presented through various art forms.

The event left attendees inspired and invigorated, with organizers already gearing up for next year.
