Blurring the line between a fashion show and performance art, fashion brand RECONSTRUCT took the TEDxAmsterdamWomen stage by storm. This edgy collection, created by five female designers, isn’t just about turning heads – it’s all about inclusivity.
“Diversity is very important to us. People often view fashion as exclusive, but we want everyone to feel free to express themselves and tell their own story through our clothing.”
Their show started off with eight hooded figures taking to the stage, entirely in black and holding mirrors of all sizes. Striking models walked the aisle of the hall, posing for the audience and checking our their own appearances in the mirrors. This begged the question: how do we see ourselves and does this align with the views others have of us?
With their bold pieces popping with flashes of color, the RECONSTRUCT fashion line is experimental yet wearable, futuristic, surprising, and androgynous.
The young designers shared their vision on bridging the gap too, noting how fashion is mostly considered a woman’s world but it’s actually dominated by men when it comes to positions of power.
RECONSTRUCT’s collections have been presented during Copenhagen and New York Fashion Week and have been published on several fashion platforms such as Vogue.com. With their vision and hard work, these five passionate young women are reconstructing their way into the fashion industry.
