Why TEDxAmsterdamWomen Reshaping the future About TED TEDx, x = independently organized
Worldwide women are at the cradle of change. Whether it’s an African girl who boosts the village economy with her microloan. Or higher educated women who introduce constructive change to the way European multinationals are being organised. Women give birth to ideas and reshape our future. We are on the eve of a quiet revolution. One where power as well as vulnerability change the way we handle the world and each other. In the areas of technology, entertainment, design, science, culture, art and global affairs, women with their success stories stand out. It is their drive, pride and vision that slowly change the world around us.
TEDxWomen is being organised in many places in the World in order to shape this change. On the 1st December 2011 the Van Gogh Museum hosts the Dutch version. The theme of TEDxWomen worldwide is: Reshaping the Future. For 2011 ‘heroes’ is the main theme. We can’t pay enough attention to the knowledge, awareness and enthusiasm that possibly form the inspiration for other budding ideas. This programme focuses on how women think and work, communicate and collaborate, learn and lead. We explore what this means and why it is of importance to us all. TEDxAmsterdamWomen reveals who the women are that bring on these leading changes, and gives them a platform for their ‘Ideas worth spreading’.
TED exists since 1984 as a platform for ideas, inspiration and change. Millions of people visit ted.com on a daily basis tot watch do-gooders speak about technology, design and culture. TED’s creed is: Ideas worth spreading. There is a yearly congress that is visited by free thinkers from all over the world. TEDx stands for an independently organised event in the spirit of TED. TEDxAmsterdam exists since 2009. In 2010 TEDxAmsterdamWomen was added. Both events aren’t subsidised and rely on the enthusiasm of sponsors and volunteers.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. A TEDx event aims to combine the live streaming TED talks with their own speakers in order to elicit debate and create links between people in a small group. All local, self-organised events can use the TEDx brandname, whereby the x indicates that it’s an ‘indepently organised TED event’. TED gives general guidance for the TEDx programme whereupon you can organise the TEDx event yourself (subject to certain rules and regulations) TED Women has a live stream on ted.com. This live stream is offered free of charge to the TEDx organisers that apply to host an event. In November 2011 the TEDxAmsterdam event will be held for the third time, in the Stadsschouwburg. The TEDxAmsterdam foundation also organises the international TEDxevents: TEDxChange, TEDxYOUTH and TEDxAmsterdamWomen in Amsterdam.
